What's included

Why it matters

A fire extinguisher that's undercharged, expired, or the wrong type for the hazard can fail in the first minute of a fire -- the window where a portable extinguisher actually makes a difference. Ohio fire code requires extinguishers to be inspected at least annually and tagged with the inspection date, and most insurers expect the same.

How often

Monthly visual checks (typically done in-house), annual professional inspection, 6-year internal maintenance, and 5- or 12-year hydrostatic testing depending on extinguisher type.

Common questions

How many extinguishers does my building need?
It depends on square footage, occupancy type, and hazard class -- we assess this during your inspection and can add or relocate units to bring you into compliance.
What does hydrostatic testing involve, and how often is it needed?
It's a pressure test of the extinguisher cylinder to confirm it can still safely hold pressure. Most dry-chemical units need it every 12 years; CO2 and some other types need it every 5 years. We track due dates per unit so nothing gets missed.
Do you recharge extinguishers on-site or take them off-site?
Routine recharges are typically handled on the spot; units that need hydrostatic testing or internal maintenance may be swapped with a serviced loaner while yours is serviced off-site, so you're never left without coverage.
